Lung Cancer Screening

Detecting lung cancer before it causes symptoms save lives
Lung Cancer Screening is designed to detect lung cancer before it has the chance to grow or spread. By Detecting the cancer early we have a better chance of treating it and getting rid of it completely.

Lung cancer screening usually involves a CT scan of the chest and then expert interpretation of the images taken. Screening in this way isn't suitable for everyone, because of course CT scans involve radiation and therefore we need to weight the risks and benefits of doing the test.

The NHS is in the process of rolling out the Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) which is lung cancer screening for high risk people aged 55 to 74 years with a significant smoking history. I am very involved with the establishment of this programme and am responsible at an alliance level for the screening programme itself and also at Imperial for the management of patients with abnormalities on their scans.

If you are worried that you might be at risk of lung cancer or would like to discuss the benefits of screening please contact me and I can talk you through the process.

Alternatively I run a private lung cancer screening programme at OneWelbeck Lung Health where, if you clearly meet the screening criteria, we can book you directly for the test followed by clinical review and discussion. Click here for more information.
